Betty Bofinger Brown

Betty Bofinger Brown was adopted by John N. Bofinger and the Bofinger family and grew up in St. Louis Missouri. Betty was deeply interested in church and civic activities. Betty Bofinger Brown endowed the Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. The specialization at the school includes general casework and hospital social work. Betty helped secure the future of Washington University in St. Louis by donating a substantial sum of money to help build Brown Hall.

George Warren Brown and Betty Bofinger Brown 

Betty married George Warren Brown in 1885. George Warren Brown after working as a wholesale shoe salesman, launched his own shoe factory which grew into the Brown Shoe Company.

Brown Shoe Company

George Warren Brown was the founder of Brown Shoe Company. His Buster Brown line sold the most children’s shoes in the world.
